Carpet Cleaning FAQ — Marina Del Rey, CA
Common questions from homeowners in Marina Del Rey and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.
How long until the carpet is dry and we can walk on it again?
Plan on four to eight hours for light traffic, longer for dense cut pile. Marina del Rey works against fast drying: the marine layer sits in most mornings May through September, overnight humidity near the water stays high all year, and daytime highs rarely break the low 80s, so almost nobody is running forced air to help. We bring air movers and run them in the rooms we clean, which is the difference between dry by evening and damp overnight. Socks on clean carpet are fine right away; shoes and furniture should wait until the pile feels dry at the base.

Walk me through what actually happens when you show up.
First we look at the carpet with you and point out the spots we think will lift and the ones we think won't. Then we vacuum dry soil out, move what furniture we're moving, pre-spray the traffic lanes and spots, and give the chemistry time to work. Hot-water extraction comes next, rinsing the pile and pulling the soil and solution back out under vacuum. We groom the pile, set air movers, put foam blocks or tabs under furniture legs, and walk the rooms with you before we pack up. Most one- and two-bedroom units here run two to three hours start to finish.

Hot-water extraction, shampooing, dry cleaning: what's the difference?
Hot-water extraction sprays heated solution into the pile and vacuums it back out. It's what we use on most jobs because it reaches the base of the pile where the sand sits. Shampooing works a foam into the fibers with a rotary brush and is mostly useful on heavily soiled commercial-grade loop in lobbies and corridors. Dry cleaning uses a compound or low-moisture pad with little water, so it's the choice when a unit has to be back in service in an hour or when the carpet backing can't take moisture. Shaw, Mohawk, Karastan, Stainmaster, Anderson Tuftex and Masland all publish cleaning guidance for their products, and we follow it so warranties stay intact. We tell you which method we're using and why before we start.

Realistically, how often does carpet need this?
Every 12 to 18 months covers a typical couple or single occupant. Drop to every 6 to 9 months with kids, a shedding dog, or a unit near the channels where fine beach sand off Venice and Dockweiler tracks in constantly. That sand is the real problem here, because it works down to the base of the pile and cuts fiber every time somebody walks on it. Rental turnovers get cleaned on their own schedule regardless of the calendar. If the traffic lanes look darker than the rest of the room, you're already past due.

Why do two jobs of the same size end up priced differently?
Square footage is the starting point, then the specifics of your unit take over. A third-floor condo with elevator-only access means hose runs through common corridors and more setup time than a ground-floor townhome. Pet urine is the biggest single variable, because treating it properly means working the subfloor and pad, not just the surface. Heavy sand loading at the base of a dense cut pile takes more passes than a lightly used loop. Berber, wool and delicate construction need gentler chemistry and slower work. We look at the carpet, tell you what we see, and put the number in writing before anyone unrolls a hose.

Do you move the furniture?
Yes, within reason. Sofas, chairs, coffee tables, dining sets and small dressers get moved, cleaned under, and set back on blocks or tabs. We leave beds with the frame in place, full bookcases, pianos, wall-mounted units and anything with electronics wired in, and we clean right up to and around them. If you want a room completely empty, clear the small stuff ahead of time and we'll handle the rest. Tell us about tight stairwells or narrow elevator doors when you call so we plan the route.

What will lift out of the carpet, and what is there for good?
Food and drink spills, coffee, mud, pet accidents, body oil in the traffic lanes and general ground-in soil almost always come out. Red dye drinks, bleach spots, mustard, hair dye and some medications are a different matter, because the fiber's color has been changed rather than coated. Old pet urine that sat long enough to wick into the pad can leave a permanent shadow even after the odor is gone. Sun fade along a channel-facing window and pile that's been physically abraded by sand are wear, not stains, and cleaning won't reverse them. We'll give you a straight read on each spot during the walkthrough instead of promising everything.

Is any of this a problem for pets or small kids?
No. Our standard solutions are low-residue and we rinse thoroughly, so what's left in the pile is the carpet itself. Keep pets and kids out of the room while hoses are running and air movers are going, mostly to avoid tripping and the noise. Once the carpet is dry to the touch, the room is back in normal use. If anyone in the household has asthma or a specific sensitivity, say so when you book and we'll use fragrance-free chemistry.

Can you clean upholstery, area rugs and tile at the same visit?
Yes, and bundling them into one appointment saves you a second setup. Sofas, sectionals, dining chairs and mattresses get cleaned with tools sized for the fabric and dried with the same air movers. Wool, silk-blend and hand-knotted rugs we inspect first and may take offsite, since salt-laden onshore wind off Santa Monica Bay is hard on natural fibers and some rugs need controlled drying. Tile and grout get machine-scrubbed and extracted, with sealing offered after. Mention everything you want done when you call so we block enough time.

Can you come today, and where do you work?
Same-day slots are usually available if you call in the morning, and we keep room in the schedule for turnover work, since tenant turnover here is constant and move-outs rarely give much notice. We cover Marina del Rey and the surrounding Westside coastal plain of Los Angeles County, including the mid- and high-rise towers, condo stacks and townhome complexes fronting the channels, plus the adjacent low-rise stucco multifamily. Housing here is overwhelmingly post-1960, so we know the building types and how to get equipment in through elevator-access units. Let us know about loading dock hours, gate codes or a building certificate of insurance requirement and we'll handle it before the crew arrives. Evenings and weekends are available on request.
